Mission

Colonial Members and Friends,

We might not be able to go to church on Sunday mornings currently, but if there were ever a time to be Jesus’ church—stepping into places of growing needs as people are impacted by COVID-19—it’s right now.

Together, we can help. Together, we can Do Good for Christ’s Sake. Together, we can do what Colonial Church has always done: partner with organizations that are doing good in the neighborhood.

So in response to the COVID-19 crisis, Colonial’s Mission Ministry Team pledged $46,000 from the Missions Budget to support Sheridan StoryVEAP Food PantryCES Food ShelfPROP Food ShelfICA Food Shelf, and Families Moving Forward Emergency Sheltering. This, together with your generosity has allowed us to give over $80,000 to these frontline ministries.

Not only this, but our Blessing Initiative team (read more about The Blessing Initiative here) wanted to expand the impact so we designated an additional $200,000 from the $1 million that we set aside for missions to go to support immediate needs.

If you want to join in supporting both front line ministries and/or those with needs in our community you can help us one of two ways:

1. Send a check:
Colonial Church
6200 Colonial Way
Edina, MN 55436

(Designate “COVID-19 Food Insecurity”)

2. Give online: Click here to give to Colonial online (add “COVID-19 Food Insecurity”  or "Benevolence" in the Memo under your email address).

Additionally, we invite you to consider giving of your time as you're able. Each of these partners needs volunteers, and they have adopted social distancing practices to engage volunteers wisely. Your help can empower them to keep delivering urgently needed services (for those who are older or immunocompromised, we encourage you to stay home. We are encouraging students and younger generations to volunteer as they are available!). Click here to indicate ways you'd like to help and/or to share any needs you have at this time.

And finally, there is one more way we can Do Good for Christ’s Sake: pray.

  • Pray for those who are afraid, that they might experience One whose perfect love casts out fear.
  • Pray for those in financial need, that they might experience God’s faithful provision.
  • Pray for those who are ill, that the Great Physician will work through caring medical professionals to restore health and wholeness to many.
  • Pray for our leaders, that they would know divine wisdom and exercise it with courage and inclusivity.

We’re grateful to continue our Year of the Good Neighbor with you in this way. We might not have seen it coming back in September, but we are honored to be on the journey with you. Keep tuned here or via e-news for more ways to love our neighbors during this unprecedented season as we discern more opportunities to meet needs.

Together in Christ,

Paul Bertelson, Missions Director
Rev. Jeff Lindsay, the Ministerial Staff, and the Missional Ministry Team

We love getting to uncover creative ways to serve our neighbors with you in this season.

We are so grateful to all who showed up at our Drive-Thru Food Drive on June 6th and 7th. We're still looking for ways to connect our time, attention, and resources with immediate needs in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, so keep connected with us!
