It’s not even the start of the year, but we want to share the January and February focus of our Mission Trunk, which is located in the Common. (Learn more about our Mission Trunk here).
During the months of January and February, we’ll be collecting hygiene items for Community Emergency Services.
Specifically, our January focus will be Men’s Hygiene. Think about the gift that a clean shave, a fresh stick of deodorant, or a new toothbrush can bring. While such items come automatically to us, they aren’t a given for all. Some example items could be:
- Shaving Cream
- Toilet Paper
Next, our February focus will be Ladies’ Hygiene items. Some ideas include the above, plus any feminine hygiene items, which are desperately needed.
We’re working hard to listen well to our mission partners so we can assist them in areas where they need the most help. While our mission partners can often receive grants for food, or develop partnerships with large food banks, it’s hygiene items that are often very difficult to receive matching funds for, but are nonetheless desperately needed. Plus, we’ve all been to Target, walked out with a bag of these items and realize they don’t come cheap to those who are just scraping by. It’s a simple gift, but one that is much needed and appreciated.
We’ll deliver items at the end of February so there is no need to make two separate trips for the items. You can bring either in at any time during January or February. We simply wanted to place a focus in case you’d like to visualize an individual that may receive your gift and say a prayer for them and you place your offering into the Mission Trunk.
Thank you for your generosity in helping to support our local mission partners. Simply pick up an extra item on your normal trip to the store and drop them in the Mission Trunk next time you are at Colonial. Our goal is to fill and empty our Mission Trunk many times over with these items!
We’ll be delivering these items to CES. Community Emergency Services is a long-time mission partner of Colonial and they provide a range of services for the residents of South Minneapolis. Learn more about CES by clicking here.
Thank you so much for your generosity. We have been thrilled with the response to our Mission Trunk and every month we’ve had to empty it several times, only to have it be filled again. Our team that empties the Mission Trunk and delivers our donations is doing a great job, but the response has been so great that they could use some help.
