Unless I wash you, you have no share with me. John 13:8
One thing we gradually learn about ourselves is how hard it is for us to receive. Very hard! We love to give, to help others, and to be strong and generous. That’s our nature: to be helpful and supportive. But ultimately we need healing love ourselves, so it’s important sometimes to allow others to do for us and give to us. We know too well that sometimes in our relationships we are beyond our capacity to love. We simply cannot do it. But when we learn to receive we begin to know the gradual restoration and healing of broken, tense relationships. God offers us gifts of forgiveness and mercy, but for some mysterious reason we find these hard to receive. Let’s try not to forget the wonder of being able to return again and again to ask for healing. Let’s try to be open to receive forgiveness “seventy times seven times.” Our God “waits” for us to receive mercy.
Receive my lonely, broken heart, God, and know my desire for healing and mercy.
