March 29th. Take Me To The Alley (A Prayer for Maundy Thursday).

TAKE A MOMENT TO BREATHE IN GOD’S PRESENCE as you begin.

John 13:34

34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

“Take Me To the Alley” from Gregory Porter (watch online)

Well they guild their houses in preparation for the king
And they line the sidewalks
With every sort of shiny thing
They will be surprised
When they hear him say

[Chorus 1]
Take me to the alley
Take me to the afflicted ones
Take me to the lonely ones
That somehow lost their way

[Chorus 2]
Let them hear me say
I am your friend
Come to my table
Rest here in my garden
You will have a pardon

[Chorus 1]
Take me to the alley
Take me to the afflicted ones
Take me to the lonely ones
That somehow lost their way

[Chorus 2]
Let them hear me say
I am your friend
Come to my table
Rest here in my garden
You will have a pardon

[Bridge]
They will be surprised
When they hear him say

[Chorus 1]
Take me to the alley
Take me to the afflicted ones
Take me to the lonely ones
That somehow lost their way

[Chorus 2]
Let them hear me say
I am your friend
Come to my table
Rest here in my garden
You will have a pardon

PRAYER. God, on this Thursday, as we recall your new command, may we indeed love one another. Take us to the alley. Take us to the afflicted ones.Take us to the lonely ones who somehow lost their way. Let them hear us say, “I am your friend. Come to my table, and rest here in my garden.” For you, oh God, have given us all pardon. AMEN.

TAKE A MOMENT OF SILENCE as you close.
