The Star —(Joe Werdan)

The Star —(Joe Werdan)

December 19th– The Star

In those days a decree went out from Emperor Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This was the first registration and was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3 All went to their own towns to be registered. 4 Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David. (Lk. 2:1-4)

Reflection (Joe Werdan):

Going home

Is a wonderful thing.

Where life began

Where meals were cooked

Where rest is found.

Streets lined with houses,

Each one glowing with warmth,

Reverberating laughter,

Radiating love.

Familiar places and forgotten faces,

Distant in mind, but close in heart.

Footsteps retraced,

Memories relived,

Years reawakened.

This is where life is,

Where life will always be,

Because it is home,

And it will always be.

I see him from above–

He is coming

To his house

To his friends

To the family of David.

Where his life began,

Where he ate and slept,

He was safe.

The streets are empty.

The houses are cold.

No light, but darkness,

No sound, only silence,

No footsteps,

No people,

This is where life was,

Where life was supposed to be.

Bethlehem is not safe,

It is not home.

He is coming to a stable.

And safe.

A place for a family.

A place for friends to visit.

A stable is where light will come,

Where joy will be borne,

And the world will find its rest.

This is home

Where life will begin, again.

What is your home?

God of All things, guide us in our lives, in our waking and our sleeping; give us comfort, give us hope, and give to us new life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
