December 6

December 6

You are invited into a time of spiritual reflection and prayer in this Advent season—a season of waiting and listening, a season of expectation and hope.

O Lord, let me not conform to the ways of this world, but transform me by your Holy Spirit; renew me mind and heart that I may discern and do Your Will—what is good and acceptable and perfect. AMEN.

December 6. Lead and Feed

TAKE A MOMENT OF SILENCE as you begin

Now you are walled around with a wall; siege is laid against us; with a rod they strike the ruler of Israel upon the cheek. But you, O Bethlehem of Ephrathah, who are one of the little clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to rule in Israel, whose origin is from of old, from ancient days. Therefore he shall give them up until the time when she who is in labor has brought forth; then the rest of his kindred shall return to the people of Israel. And he shall stand and feed his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they shall live secure, for now he shall be great to the ends of the earth; and he shall be the one of peace. If the Assyrians come into our land and tread upon our soil, we will raise against them seven shepherds and eight installed as rulers. Micah 5:1-5a

REFLECTION from Tom Cooner
This is our beloved passage from Christmas time. that out of Beit-Lechem, the House of Bread, would come another King who would feed us. Bethlehem was where King David was from centuries before. Micah declares that from this same location another would come and rule in Israel… “Whose origins are far in the past and back in ancient times.” Even as John tells us, “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God”. John 1:1   After King David came King Solomon, and it was his son, Rehoboam, who would say –you think my father was hard on you… I am going to be even harder! With that, the nation was split into two–Judah in the south and Israel in the north. This coming King from the south would reunite the two nations. He would lead and feed the flock Israel where Jesus began his ministry.

PRAYER: Holy Father, Guard our hearts, our minds and our spirits. Allow King Jesus to rule over us, even our divided house, the early and later times. Restore your presence, your love, and guard us against the Evil One and place your hedge of protection about us. “Stand and Feed your flock  in the strength of ADONAI, in the majesty of the LORD God.”  Let His Name be great to the ends of the earth. In Jesus the Messiah Holy and precious Name. AMEN.

TAKE A MOMENT OF SILENCE as you close.
