December 5

December 5

You are invited into a time of spiritual reflection and prayer in this Advent season—a season of waiting and listening, a season of expectation and hope.

O Lord, let me not conform to the ways of this world, but transform me by your Holy Spirit; renew me mind and heart that I may discern and do Your Will—what is good and acceptable and perfect. AMEN.

December 5. True Joy

TAKE A MOMENT OF SILENCE as you begin

Sing aloud, O daughter Zion; shout, O Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, O daughter Jerusalem! The Lord has taken away the judgments against you, he has turned away your enemies. The king of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst; you shall fear disaster no more. On that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: Do not fear, O Zion; do not let your hands grow weak. The Lord, your God, is in your midst, a warrior who gives victory; he will rejoice over you with gladness, he will renew you in his love; he will exult over you with loud singing as on a day of festival. I will remove disaster from you, so that you will not bear reproach for it. I will deal with all your oppressors at that time. And I will save the lame and gather the outcast, and I will change their shame into praise and renown in all the earth. At that time I will bring you home, at the time when I gather you; for I will make you renowned and praised among all the peoples of the earth, when I restore your fortunes before your eyes, says the Lord. Zephaniah 3:14-20

REFLECTION from Jeff Lindsay
In our passage for today, Zephaniah speaks the LORD’s words of joy, embracing them then, and us today, with the promise of fulfillment as we wait for the joy and hope that we will experience in the coming of Jesus our Emmanuel. And so as for Zephaniah, so it is with us—rejoice always! No one or nothing can take the presence of God away from us. In this Advent season we can be keenly aware that Christ is with us.

So live with joy, knowing and trusting that we are always in good company and that we are safe and secure in God’s arms no matter what troubles, sufferings sorrows and hardships we face.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus if there is one thing we don’t have enough of this Advent season it is true joy. Fill us we pray to over flowing with your presence in such a way that we experience true Joy. AMEN.
