December 16

December 16

You are invited into a time of spiritual reflection and prayer in this Advent season—a season of waiting and listening, a season of expectation and hope.

O Lord, let me not conform to the ways of this world, but transform me by your Holy Spirit; renew me mind and heart that I may discern and do Your Will—what is good and acceptable and perfect. AMEN.

December 16. Waiting with joy.

For even if the fig tree doesn’t blossom, and no fruit is on the vines, even if the olive tree fails to produce, and the fields yield no food at all, even if the sheep vanish from the sheep pen, and there are no cows in the stalls; still, I will rejoice in Adonai, I will take joy in the God of my salvation. Elohim Adonai is my strength! He makes me swift and sure-footed as a deer and enables me to stride over my high places. Habakkuk 3:17-19 CJB

REFLECTION from Laura VanderTop

Lord, I choose to rejoice in you, even though things are not yet as they should be. Teach me how to let go of worry and fear, and instead wait with rejoicing.

My beloved one, You begin your wait with thanksgiving and praise:

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his[a];we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. Psalm 100 NIV

And then…   You wait with a focus on Me, choosing to see all the goodness that I am orchestrating in and around you; You wait keeping your thoughts and words towards others gentle, loving and honoring; You wait in the hard places and allow your tears and frustrations to be poured out to Me; You wait comforted, knowing that I am with you and will help you; You wait with freedom–the freedom to choose to see Me over your circumstances; You wait with hope, believing that as you choose Me, I am faithful; You wait with joy, because I am good!

Think of a song, saying, scripture, or psalm that you can have on hand to remind you of God’s presence with you when your waiting gets hard.

PRAYER. Lord, I give you thanks and praise for your goodness towards me, always. I rejoice in you with all that is within me. Amen.
