December 10

December 10

You are invited into a time of spiritual reflection and prayer in this Advent season—a season of waiting and listening, a season of expectation and hope.

O Lord, let me not conform to the ways of this world, but transform me by your Holy Spirit; renew me mind and heart that I may discern and do Your Will—what is good and acceptable and perfect. AMEN.

December 10. What are you preparing for?

“Faithfulness will spring up from the ground.” Psalm 85:11

“See I am sending my messenger ahead of you; he will prepare you way.” Mark 1:2

REFLECTION from Marie Wonders
Everyone has different ways they prepare for Christmas. Some cook and clean. Some go to special holiday shows. Some like to decorate. Some of us simply endure the onslaught of Christmas cheer. Even if you are someone who doesn’t like to plan ahead, chances are you will prepare something for someone this month.

When we prepare to be generous, to have a party, give a gift or spend some time with another, we are preparing to love like God does. And how does God love us? God loves us without strings attached. God isn’t trying to get anything from us when he gives us gifts. God isn’t trying to show off or live up to a standard. God isn’t trying to make us feel a certain way. God is simply loving us. So as you prepare, think about what you are preparing to do. How can you give a gift that shows love, even if it isn’t “perfect.” How can you have a party that reaches out with hospitality, even if your living room isn’t vacuumed? How can you give a gift with no strings attached? What will you learn, as you prepare, about God who is always able to love you like this?

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, when John the Baptist prepared for you, we know he went out to the wilderness. He focused solely on you and the coming gift of yourself and the kingdom you would bring. We have many distractions, help us to say no to distractions so we can prepare to love others with no strings attached. Even if we cannot, we know that you will still always love us- no strings attached. AMEN.
