CURRENT is our weekly gathering for teenagers (grades 9-12). Our goal is to deepen faith in God and strengthen relationships with others through fellowship, Bible teaching, small groups, and service in the community. Join weekly for that spiritual pick-me-up that we all need. Our desire is to change your life spiritually and draw you closer to a supporting community of students. Check us out every Wednesday, you are always welcome to join in!
The High School Ministry at Colonial Church is now known as CURRENT High School Ministry. You may be asking yourself “why change?” We asked ourselves the same question because we did not want to change for change sake. Rather, our goal has been to find meaning in a name that would motivate behavior and provide identity for a ministry that lacks identity. A talented and committed group of high school students researched, brainstormed, and debated (fought) over many options & eventually decided upon CURRENT. Let me share some of their thoughts:
The word Current has strong ties to water and movement. In scripture, water is often used to symbolize & illustrate the character and ways of God. Water is used to purify & cleanse. Water is essential to life, nothing grows without it. Water flows, it is rarely stagnant, and when it moves it is a powerful force. In John 4 Jesus says, ““Everyone who drinks this water will get thirsty again and again. Anyone who drinks the water I give will never thirst—not ever. The water I give will be a spring within, gushing fountains of endless life.”
Our students want to lead people to the water of life. They want to provide opportunities to grow. They want to flow together and move in powerful ways. We simply want the name of CURRENT HSM to remind ourselves that we are called to Christ and his everlasting life, and that we are called to move in great ways.
