In the middle of an April snowstorm, the middle school girls got together for a Luau at Colonial! We spent the evening having a blast in a girl’s only environment! We caught the movie Soul Surfer together and were inspired by the story of Bethany Hamilton’s courage, faith and peace in the midst of extreme adversity. Afterwards we came back to Colonial for a hula dance lesson, beach ball fun, photos and lots of laughter. In addition, each girl made a bracelet with different color beads representing the characteristics of Bethany that we wanted to emulate:

Blue= the peace she had immediately after attacked by the shark.
Red=the love she never stopped expressing for God and God’s unfailing love for her.
White=the patience she held on to as she trusted her situation to be a part of God’s plan and as she re-learned how to surf.
Green= the faithfulness she had to never give up on her relationship with God and his faithfulness to be with her and give her a new perspective on her circumstance.

Even though the sun wasn’t shining outside, we couldn’t tell the difference! These 20 young girls provided an abundance of light and warmth as they reflected God’s glory through fun, laughter and community.

This event would not have been possible without the help of 5 incredible moms to provide food and drive to the Movie Theater and back! A HUGE thank you to Michele, Michele, Karan, Krissy and Nancy!
